Move-in/Move-out

Move-in and move-out are exciting and busy times on Princeton's campus. Please make note of the following information as you prepare for your Princeton move. Check the Housing and Real Estate Services move-in and move-out pages for more information.

Parking and Permits

Move-in: First-year students will receive a parking permit during check-in on September 1, 2018 and should display the move-in permit to access campus and unload at their Residential College. After unloading, first-year students and their families may park in Lot 20 or additional overflow lots as directed by staff. TigerTransit buses run continually from Lot 20 and service the rest of campus and the main street of Princeton, Nassau Street.

Returning students may obtain hourly permits beginning September 8, 2018 from the guard booth on Elm Drive to access campus and unload at their Residential College. After unloading, returning students may park in Lot 19 with the temporary permit they received in the mail from Housing and Real Estate Services (HRES).

Move-out: Students may obtain hourly permits from the south guard booth on Elm Drive to load a vehicle at their Residential College. There are no personal or moving vehicles allowed on campus from Thursday, May 31, 2018 through Saturday, June 2, 2018.

Permitted Moving Vehicles

Moving trucks up to 15 feet are allowed on campus for move-in/move-out only. This length represents the cargo box attached to a majority of moving trucks made available by most truck rental agencies. This length also allows ample cargo capacity for studio apartments and 1-2 bedroom units. For moving trucks longer than 15 feet, short-term parking will be made available in a designated University lot for temporary loading/unloading. Push carts will be provided as available.

Trailers up to 10 feet are allowed on campus for move-in/move-out only. This length specification accommodates the University's many loading areas and sharp turns, which make the movement of trailers very difficult and unsafe. For trailers longer than 10 feet, short-term parking will be available in a University lot for temporary loading/unloading. Push carts will be provided, as available.

External Moving Companies

External storage companies will be allowed on campus ONLY if pre-approved by the University upon completion of a Master Service Agreement with Procurement Services and in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the policy pertaining to external storage companies. Pre-approved external storage companies should contact Transportation & Parking Services at least one week in advance of arriving on campus for move-in/move-out to receive a permit for campus access. There is no access to campus for moving vehicles from Thursday, May 31, 2018 through Saturday, June 2, 2018.
